As a wildlife artist based in the Northern Rivers of NSW, I find endless inspiration in the vibrant creatures around me, especially the Azure Kingfisher. With its royal blue and orange plumage, this dazzling bird thrives near waterways, gracefully diving for fish and insects. A memorable encounter deepened my passion for capturing their brilliance: rescuing a dazed kingfisher, I marveled at its vivid colors as it recovered. My first attempt at bird painting was inspired by this close connection, and I now strive to share the delicate charm of these stunning creatures through my art.

In 2018 I had the pleasure of painting Fleay’s Barred Frog, an endangered species native to Northern NSW. This remarkable creature, with its striking patterns and vital role in the ecosystem, was a joy to bring to life on canvas. When our art class was invited by the local council to contribute to a booklet on endangered species, I eagerly participated. I’m thrilled and honored that my painting was chosen for publication, helping to raise awareness of the importance of protecting these unique and vulnerable animals through art.

As a wildlife artist, I find endless inspiration in creatures’ natural habitats, none more so than the majestic Bald Eagle. This iconic bird, the national emblem of the United States since 1782, embodies power and grace with its sharp talons and hooked beak, making it a skilled hunter. My passion for wildlife art deepened after seeing a wild Bald Eagle in Montana in 2007, perched on a branch and scanning a glacier-fed stream for fish. The memory of that awe-inspiring moment drove me to try and capture the essence of these magnificent animals, sharing their beauty and strength through my art.

I am deeply drawn to wolves, particularly the Grey Wolf, or Timber Wolf, native to the wilds of Eurasia and North America. A transformative camping and horseback adventure in Montana in 2007, where I heard their haunting howls, left an indelible mark on me. As top predators, wolves embody strength, intelligence, and unity, thriving in packs to hunt prey from deer to rodents. My passion for wildlife art stems from a lifelong love of animals and the joy of capturing their essence, from bugs to buffalo. Through lifelike representations, I strive to share the beauty and complexity of these majestic creatures.

As a budding wildlife artist, I am inspired by the beauty and spirit of animals, with cheetah cubs being a particularly joyful subject. These cuties, with their fuzzy hairdos and playful antics, bring a vibrant energy to the Serengeti's rugged landscape. Known for their speed and agility, cheetahs face immense survival challenges, making the innocence of their cubs even more poignant. I am captivated by the mother-cub bond, where the mother’s calm vigilance contrasts with the cubs’ exuberance. Capturing this dynamic has been a delightful challenge, and through my art, I aim to share their vitality and tender connection.

I find endless fascination in the power and elegance of big cats, especially leopards. Their piercing gaze, golden spotted coat, and formidable presence inspired me to bring this stunning creature to life on canvas. Renowned for their adaptability, leopards thrive in diverse habitats, from savannahs to rainforests, displaying strength and stealth as solitary, nocturnal hunters. Capturing their intensity and intricate beauty was both challenging and rewarding. I focused on their rich golden-orange hues and unique patterns, striving to convey their raw power and grace. Through my art, I celebrate the majesty of leopards and the wonders of the natural world.

Zebras are endlessly charming, each one unique yet familiar with their striking stripes. Galloping on horseback alongside a herd of zebras in Kenya’s Chyulu Hills in 2012 was a highlight of my life. The experience was magical—the zebras, unthreatened by my presence, moved gracefully beside me as if I were part of their world. In that moment, I felt like a centaur, connected to nature in an extraordinary way. Capturing the beauty and individuality of these incredible animals through my art is both a joy and a tribute to that unforgettable experience.​

Gorillas are magnificent creatures, so closely related to us that their expressions often feel deeply human. The thoughtful gaze of this gorilla captivated me, as if you could almost hear what he’s pondering. Bringing this sense of intelligence and emotion to life on canvas was both a challenge and a privilege. My art tries to capture the heartwarming moments and powerful connections of wildlife. This piece features a young African elephant calf, its pinkish hue a tender reminder of its infancy. Nestled safely among the towering legs of its protective herd, the little one finds comfort and security. In the wilds of Africa, where dangers abound, the entire herd works together to shield and nurture their youngest member. Standing solitary in the early morning mist, this majestic creature exudes a sense of sadness and loneliness, reflecting the trials its species has endured. In 2012, I had the unforgettable privilege of encountering a wild rhino family—mum, dad, and baby—while visiting Uganda. Standing just meters away, at ground level, I felt both awe and vulnerability in the presence of these powerful creatures, even under the watchful eyes of their protectors. The baby rhino’s curiosity and sweetness were captivating, yet the tension of its mother’s protective instincts added a thrilling edge to the moment. This experience deeply inspired my art, where I strives to capture the raw beauty and emotion of wildlife encounters, sharing their magic with my audience.

The mother gently introduces her baby to the excited and inquisitive members of the group, each auntie showing curiosity and care. I finds joy in capturing the essence of animals, each with its own story and symbolism. This piece features a black cat, a creature surrounded by mystery and intrigue. Often associated with superstition and magic, this feline beauty is brought to life with simple, swift strokes in a quick yet delightful study. My art may often carry personal stories and heartfelt connections. In Christmas 2022, I created and gifted this stunning eagle painting to my niece-in-law, whose maiden name was Eagle. This gesture was deeply meaningful, and the gift was warmly received as a cherished treasure for her young family. I was profoundly touched by my niece-in-law’s delighted response, making the experience even more special. This moment reflects the joy I find in sharing my work, creating not just art but memories that resonate with love and significance for those who receive them.

Sometimes I draw my inspiration from my awe-inspiring encounters with wildlife. In 2007, while in the Absaroka Mountains of Montana, I was deeply moved by the haunting calls of wolves. Reintroduced to Yellowstone after near extinction, these remarkable creatures have profoundly impacted the ecosystem, restoring balance and vitality to the region. In this piece, I captured a pair of wolves mid-howling, as if summoning their pack for an important meeting. Their unity and wild spirit reflect the resilience of nature, a theme I am passionate about sharing through my art.

In 2026, a friend of a friend gave me a few fish from her cleaned-out pond, including one she named "Elvis." Initially black, Elvis changed to a golden hue over the years and grew to a mighty size. He lived a long, full life, becoming a beloved part of my fishponds world. Inspired by this special connection, I painted this piece as a surprise gift for the lady’s 70th birthday. The painting reflects the magic and longevity of Elvis’s transformation, a tribute to the unexpected beauty that life often presents.

My passion for all creatures, big and small, is evident in my art. I finds chameleons particularly fascinating for their incredible ability to change their appearance to blend with their environment. Inspired by this captivating trait, I named this vibrant chameleon "Karma" after Boy George’s iconic song. Through my painting, I hope I captured the chameleon’s stunning colors and its transformative nature, reflecting both the beauty and mystery of these remarkable creatures. This piece is a celebration of nature’s adaptability and the playful inspiration that music can bring to my work.

My art can often capture the wonder of Australia’s unique wildlife. The iconic kangaroo and its joey, with the remarkable ability to carry its young in a front pocket pouch, never fail to fascinate first-time visitors from overseas. Inspired by this fascinating creature, I titled this piece after the beloved characters from Winnie the Pooh, a story I enjoyed reading to my son in his younger years. Through this painting, I celebrates the kangaroo’s charm and the special connection between mother and baby, blending nature’s beauty with fond memories of my sons childhood.

Blinky Bill, the beloved koala character and conservation icon, inspired this piece. Known for his sleepy demeanor and eucalyptus diet, Blinky reflects the unique charm and challenges of koalas—spending most of their day snoozing thanks to their low-energy diet. Capturing the softness of his fur and his relaxed spirit was both a joy and a challenge, but I hope to have brought him to life in a way that feels authentic and endearing. This artwork celebrates not just Blinky Bill, but the koala’s role as a treasured symbol of Australian wildlife and conservation.

With their quirky Elvis-style hairdos and curious nature, emus have a special place in Australia’s heart—and mine. This painting captures the personality of these tall, flightless birds that I first came to adore while visiting a friend's property that they were managing. Eugene and Eddie, the resident emus, were a constant source of amusement, their antics and inquisitive stares bringing joy to every day.

Set against the red dust and rugged landscape of the Northern Territory, the child’s tender embrace of her pet Joey reflects an ancient connection to the land and its creatures. For many Aboriginal people, kangaroos hold a totemic significance, embodying spiritual relationships passed down through generations.
