This painting honors Picasso, the legendary tri-colored stallion of the Sand Wash Basin in Colorado. Surviving over three decades in a harsh, competitive environment, Picasso defied the odds that most wild stallions face. Known as America’s most famous wild horse, he has captivated a devoted legion of fans, with many photographers eager to capture his rugged beauty in the wild. I was drawn to Picasso's scarred body, raw strength, and indomitable spirit, and I hope this artwork does him justice. It was a privilege to bring his story to life on canvas. This piece was donated to the Murwillumbah Mustangs football club and hangs proudly in their 'Stable Bar' as a tribute to both thheir resilience and strenghth.

A stockman in Australia is responsible for the care and management of livestock on rural properties or stations, often while on horseback. Their duties include mustering, droving, branding, and treating injuries or illnesses of the animals. Historically, the role of the stockman emerged in the 19th century with the expansion into the interior of the continent. Aboriginal Australians have been integral to the success of many stations, contributing significant knowledge and expertise. The attire of a stockman typically includes a felt Akubra hat, cotton shirt with pockets for notebooks, moleskin trousers or jeans, and brown elastic side boots. The bond between a stockman and his horse is profound, exemplified by their relaxed and trusting stance together.

I have always been deeply inspired by the beauty and resilience of animals. In my work I try to capture the spirit of creatures, big and small, with a focus on realistic interpretations. Recently, I've been drawn to the mighty Mongolian horse, admired for its strength, endurance, and windswept, sturdy form. Painting these iconic animals is both a joy and a challenge, allowing me to explore their unique shapes and personalities.

The sweeping landscapes, rugged terrain, and the spirit of the bush are a constant challenge to capture on canvas, but they inspire my brushstrokes with their raw energy and timeless beauty. Each piece is my homage to the daring riders, resilient horses, and untamed wilderness that define this iconic Australian tale. I hope my work does justice to Paterson’s epic vision and resonates with those who hold a deep appreciation for the enduring spirit of the Australian outback.
